Astrid Arvelo began her formal ballet training in Venezuela at the age of 13 under the guidance of Humberto Rodríguez. By 15, she joined the corps de ballet of Ballet Nuevo Mundo de Caracas, led by renowned Venezuelan prima ballerina and principal dancer of both American Ballet Theatre and Hamburg Ballet, Zhandra Rodríguez. During her time with Ballet Nuevo Mundo, Astrid refined her technique and later joined the prestigious Teresa Carreño Ballet, performing in productions such as The Flames of Paris, Spartacus, Paquita, Giselle, The Dying Swan, and roles in The Nutcracker, including Dewdrop, Marzipan Soloist, Snow Queen, and Sugar Plum Fairy.
In 2018, she competed in the Miami International Ballet Competition, winning the Silver Medal in the fourth division category. After relocating to the United States in 2021, she continued her performance career, training briefly with Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami, and later performed with Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami as a Soloist and in the Corps de Ballet under the artistic direction of Heriberto Jimenez.
Now based in California, Astrid has performed principal roles with Western Ballet and danced works by choreographers Alejandro Gomes and Nathan Cottam. She enjoys dancing as a guest artist and teaching at ballet schools throughout the area. She is thrilled to join Peninsula Ballet Theatre for their upcoming production of The Nutcracker.
